Owner, chocolatier, and managing director, Igor Van Gerwen, founded Anvers Tasmania with a vision to share the art of fine European-style chocolate in Tasmania.
Originally from Antwerp, Belgium, Igor began honing his craft at a young age in a local bakery —an experience that sparked a lifelong passion for chocolate making.

In 1986, Igor turned his dream into reality, converting his home garage into a small chocolate kitchen.
What began as a modest operation has grown into a fully functioning chocolate factory, complete with a
café, chocolate museum, retail shop, and function and events space nestled in the heart
of Latrobe, Tasmania.

Igor believes the success of Anvers lies in the harmony between traditional craftsmanship and the finest natural ingredients. Each creation is made using time-honoured European recipes,
crafted by skilled chocolatiers who continue the art of hand-made chocolate making.

Our chocolates feature carefully selected cocoa varieties, chosen for their flavour and character.
When combined with the pure creaminess of fresh Tasmanian dairy, the result is a
distinctly smooth and luxurious Belgian-style chocolate — the hallmark of Anvers.
